Junior Boarding Schools
Junior boarding schools are middle schools that offer boarding to students in grades 6 through 9. Junior boarding school communities, led by educators with a deep understanding of this age group, provide students with unique opportunities to develop socially, emotionally, and academically while making lifelong friends and growing as independent thinkers and leaders.
Many schools provide full-boarding and five-day boarding, with the option of your child returning home on weekends. Students can begin junior boarding schools between the sixth and ninth grades. While some students choose to transfer to a high school after 8th grade, there are numerous advantages to staying through 9th grade and taking full advantage of the junior boarding school experience.
And it isn't all work! Junior boarding students live, work, and play with their peers. They have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to gain independence, explore their interests, and mature into themselves in a safe and supportive environment. There is never a dull moment at a junior boarding school, from participating in pick-up games after dinner to weekend trips to the theater in a nearby city to camping in the wilderness, making it the ideal place for highly engaged and motivated tweens.
